Student Union Bars Rated

Everyone knows that the principal characteristic of student life is the drinking culture, and what better way to drink than with fellow university friends. Yet, there is a problem, due to London’s extensive amount of universities the issue arises of the unlimited amount of university bars. Don’t worry, Stint is here to help you decide what will work for you.

Phineas Bar

To begin with, there is our personal favourite: Phineas Bar, located in the UCL Students Union on Gordon Street. Tuesdays are a highlight with live Jazz and cheap drinks, yet can become overcrowded so try to get there before the gen pop.

Do 2 Stints and you can afford this bar.

Overall rating 8/10.

Mully’s bar

Another UCL hotspot is Mully’s bar which is also located in the UCL student union. Yet, this bar has more of an underground vibe and is located in the basement. The club feel is exemplified by Mully’s infamous Saturday night Karaoke, providing an array of embarrassing first years thinking they are Beyonce.

Do 2 Stints and you can afford this bar.

Overall rating 6/10.

SOAS Bar

Onto other universities, the SOAS bar is known for its funky soul vibes with famous human rights activists painted on the walls of the spacious interior. Loved for its hip hop music, yet critiqued for its awful acoustics, causing the voices of drunk students to drown out the prized tunes.

Do 2 Stints and you can afford this bar.

Overall rating 7/10.

The King’s Waterfront Bar & Kitchen

The King’s Waterfront Bar & Kitchen is something else! With its view spanning over the whole of London as it overlooks the Thames. Although the focus of this blog is on drinks it is imperative that we mention that the food at this bar is second to none with its famous burger and curly fries. A good atmosphere with an even better setting. The drinks are slightly more expensive than most student union bars, but it compensates in other ways.

Do 5 Stint’s and you can afford this bar.

Overall rating 9/10.

The Imperial H-bar

The Imperial h-bar is lacking in what all the above share: atmosphere. This bar I would describe more as a study space with alcohol, used mainly for postgraduates and staff – the student buzz is non-existent.

Do 3 Stint’s and you can afford this bar.

Overall rating 5/10.
