When you leave university as a shiny new graduate, the opportunities that are available, and the range of avenues for you to advance down in your career can be overwhelming.
What do I want to do with my career?
What if I choose something that isn’t right for me?
How much am I going to earn?
Where am I going to work?
We know it’s hard, so to try and give you a few ideas, we’ve put together a list of five epic grad schemes that are sure to give you some ideas of what to do next:
Production Trainee Scheme with the BBC
If you’re interested in a career in the media, perhaps as a producer, researcher or assistant, then this is the scheme for you. Based in either London, Birmingham or Salford, with BBC Academy training you’ll get an in-depth introduction to all aspects of media production.
UNESCO Graduate Scheme
The Junior Professional Office (JPO) or Associate Expert (AE) programmes are designed for young university graduates to gain training in all aspects of the organisation’s programmes and projects. You get to work in their field offices in locations such as Beijing, Cairo, Geneva, Guatemala and many more or at headquarters in Paris. Either way, it’s the perfect grad scheme for people who want to make a difference in the world whilst they travel and earn.
MI5 Development Programmes
This has to be one of the most epic graduate schemes around – training in national security in the heart of the UK’s capital. With a starting salary of £30K and a promotion of a work-life balance, not only is this grad scheme fascinating and interesting, it’s a great place to work too. They offer specialisation programmes in topics such as Intelligence, Data Analysis, Technology and Business Enabling.
If you’re looking for something a bit less spy-like but you still want to work somewhere that’s going to make you smile each morning, then Innocent Drinks could be the perfect place for you. Their Grassroots Scheme is a flexible three-year rotational programme with three placements in key areas of the business. Whilst it’s a great scheme for introducing you to the commercial market, it’s also a great place to work with many benefits including free breakfasts, flexible working hours, a free on-site gym, yoga club, and many more.
Ethical Hacking Graduate Scheme
This one is a little spy-like too, however if you’re a big computer and technology lover, then you will love this. The scheme gives you the foundation for a career working with companies who want to protect themselves from threats and invasion using ethical hacking processes to identify weaknesses in systems and offering better solutions. With the digital world evolving every day, working in this field will guarantee you a long career.
